Groothoofdspoort

The Groothoofdspoort stands at the northern tip of the old city, exactly where three rivers meet. For centuries, this was the main entrance to Dordrecht. Behind the 1617 Renaissance facade, the medieval Gothic gate remains hidden, while the Virgin of Dordrecht sits on the waterfront, surrounded by city crests.

Huis Van Gijn

This stately 1729 mansion was built for a wealthy regent and later inhabited by banker and collector Simon van Gijn. Throughout his life, he amassed a vast collection: silver, furniture, prints, and toys. In his will, he decreed that his home should become a museum after his death.

Muntpoort

Behind this gate, Holland’s money was minted for centuries. As early as the 13th century, coins were struck here for the county. The gate received its current, stately form in 1555 under Emperor Charles V, and the mint finally closed its doors in 1806.

Super leuke city escape met een interessant historisch verhaal! Een mooie route door de stad met leuke puzzels. Zelfs als je de stad al kent is het een aanrader. De pauzeknop is ook ideaal, waardoor we tussendoor lekker konden lunchen. Al met al erg leuk!
