The Poetry Street

In an unassuming street, the doors appear to bear poems by poets who have literally tied themselves to the city here. Most visitors walk right past, while here you read a completely different side of Enschede, line by line.

The Oude Markt

The bustling heart of Enschede, featuring a fountain where three reliefs tell the city’s story. Beneath the middle one, it says “in memory”—a silent tribute on a square that is otherwise bursting with life.

The City Hall

One of the city’s most striking buildings, featuring a balcony where Enschede’s entire history is hidden within the balustrade. Romans, a mad duke, a royal visit, and the great fire that destroyed everything six days later: if you look closely, you can read twenty centuries off a railing that thousands of people pass every day without noticing.

Super leuke city escape met een interessant historisch verhaal! Een mooie route door de stad met leuke puzzels. Zelfs als je de stad al kent is het een aanrader. De pauzeknop is ook ideaal, waardoor we tussendoor lekker konden lunchen. Al met al erg leuk!

Het was heel leuk om op een andere manier door de stad te lopen. Ook al kenden we de stad al, zagen en leerden we toch weer meer door de puzzels en het verhaal. Ik ben benieuwd naar de andere City Escapes :)
