Preparation

You play The City Escape via our app, right in the heart of the city. Scavenging, puzzling, and discovering together. In teams of 2–4 people per phone. You can read the precise game instructions here.

No! After you have booked the tour, an instruction email will be sent your way. Ready to start? Enter the code in the app and the clock starts ticking!

It’s not strictly necessary. Just make sure you have a full battery. If your battery doesn’t last long, bring a power bank just to be safe.

The City Escape can be played on any device. For optimal ease of use, we recommend choosing the phone with the largest screen in your team.

Because you solve our puzzles using elements from the city, we recommend playing The City Escape during the day or early evening.

The game

Yes! You’ll find a pause button in the app that you can press anytime & anywhere. All timers will then pause, so you can enjoy a nice snack or drink. Fully recharged? Then you can simply pick up where you left off.

Yes! Our app has a pause button, so there’s always time for a drink or a bite to eat. Did you know that with the Nijmegen tour, you get a 20% discount on lunch at lunch café De Bruijn? You’ll come across this lunch spot along the way!

No! You can take as long as you like.

For every riddle, you always have the option to get a hint and subsequently the option to see the correct answer. The time you use for this is added to your final time to keep the rankings fair! So, if you’re stuck for a moment? No worries! This way, you can always move on to the next point in the city.

We think it’s important that all teammates stay challenged during the tour. That’s why all puzzles are real brain teasers where you use elements from the city. No boring multiple-choice questions, but brain teasers, comparisons, and tough dilemmas.

You’ll discover the city with The City Escape in 1.5 to 2.5 hours. During this time, you’ll cover a distance of about 3-4 km, including challenging riddles, a story about the city, and fun facts. And believe us: time flies!

Groups

Click the “Book a tour” button at the top right and choose the city where you want to play. The tour is now in your shopping cart. Here you can adjust the number of tours.

Team outing, friends’ weekend, or corporate activity? We’re happy to think along with you to ensure you have a fun day without any worries! Make a group inquiry and we will contact you within 1 business day.

You play the tour with 2-4 people on 1 phone. Because the tour is very interactive—using all kinds of elements from the city—everyone in the tour stays involved & enthusiastic.

All tours are available in Dutch and English.

Yes! Because the puzzles are interactive, you will have to drag and combine items on your screen. Don’t worry, this is all explained during the tour. However, it is a plus if you’re comfortable using a smartphone.

You can find our custom-designed app in the Google Play Store or the App Store.

You need internet to enter the code in the app. After that, you can turn your internet off. You will need internet again to leave a review, upload your photos, and view your ranking.

About The City Escape

The City Escape is an interactive city game played via your smartphone. Together with your team, you head out into the city and solve puzzles linked to real locations in the area. No boring multiple-choice questions, but interactive riddles where you have to look closely, search, and combine elements from the city.

During the tour, you’ll discover not just the city, but the stories behind it. Along the way, you’ll encounter info points with short facts about special places. The City Escape was developed by three young puzzle enthusiasts and can now be played in various Dutch cities, including Amsterdam, Utrecht, Eindhoven, and Maastricht.
